Getting A Honda?

Well it looks like we will have a new bike in the family, but it isn’t going to be one for hubby. I had a long talk with my friend Anna tonight, and I found out she’s selling her Honda CBR F3. It’s an older bike, a ’96, but it’s got 15000 miles and it’s in excellent condition. Plus the price she’s offering is something I really can’t refuse, especially with all the extras she’s leaving on it like the jet kit. As usual, sorry the photo is so blurry. It’s a quick shot with my cell cam.

It’s in excellent condition to be a ’96, and there’s only a couple small scratches on it. Plus I know how she cares for her bikes, and I know this one has always been garage kept and well maintained. I know it might sound cliche, but Honda does make a good “girl bike” because the bike is smaller. I sat on this one tonight, and short little 5’2″ me had no problem touching almost flat-footed. Considering Anna is 5’9, she hasn’t lowered the bike any either, so I won’t lose any of the handling.

Hubby was hoping to take some of the extra cash we’ve got right now to use for the purchase of some Dewalt and festool tools, but I think he’s just going to have to hold off. I need a new baby in my life, and it looks like it’s going to be a Honda.

New Bikes In The Family

DH has finally decided to upgrade bikes. He’s been torn for awhile. He loves the 600r because it was his first sportbike, and it holds a lot of memories for him including his first wreck. On the other hand, it’s old school technology that is outdated so badly that Yamaha decided not to even release the bike in it’s 2008 lineup.

There are pros and cons to owning the Yamaha YZF 600r, but I won’t get into those at this point. What matters right now is that DH is a very big guy, and because he rides mostly in the mountains he’s just very underpowered on the 600r. We’ve got two choices. He can either go on something like the hoodia patch to lose weight or we can get a bigger bike. We opt for the bigger bike.

By bigger I mean more powerful of course, and it looks like by the end of winter we will either be the proud new owners of a R6 or a GSXR 750.  DH has yet to make up his mind, but he’s been test driving my best friend’s two bikes.  He loves the feel of the ’05 Suzuki GSXR 750, but he loves the style of the R6.

It didn’t surprise me in the least that when bumping the bikes off the R6 was only about 2 bike lengths behind the 750.  Of course the R6 started in it’s power band, and the R6 riding was a full 100 lbs lighter than the GSXR 750′s rider, but both bikes have a nice amount of power.

No matter which bike DH chooses, we won’t be getting rid of the 600r.  It’s the perfect mountain toy (next to the Ninja 250r) for a girl like me.  Considering the bike is roughly 380lbs dry, it can’t easily wheelie up on me when I give it a little too much gas.

I’ll still be picking up the new Ninja 250r as soon as it’s released at our local dealership.  They’re still waiting for the first shipment to arrive, and I’m not putting a deposit down until I can actually sit on the bike.

Cool Site Of The Day: Car Angels

While most days around here at Moto Madness are spent discussing our two wheeled loves, we still like to give a little love to the 4 wheeled variety, especially when it’s to help children.

DH and I have decided to make a car donation this year because we have 3 cars to get rid of that don’t have a market value to make it worthwhile to sell them. DH was going to take them to the scrap yard, but I decided I would rather donate them to a charity that can use them.

I’ve been looking at different car charities that can take them, and I think I’ve finally found the one I’m going to use. Car Angel is a non-profit organization that uses donated cars to generate revenue to make videos that help teens and kids. The money raised so far has allowed this charity to give away 2.4 million videos like this one.

With so much garbage out there on our screens these days it’s nice to see an organization trying to give our children something worth watching. Children can learn many lessons from these videos, and the included Spanish subtitles also help them to begin learning Spanish at a young age.

Philadelphia Eagles Commemorative Bike

My father in law sure is going to be happy. What’s the one thing he loves more than motorcycles? He’s the biggest Philadelphia Eagles fan I’ve ever met, and now he has the chance to see his two loves combined into one with the custom built Philadelphia Eagles motorcycle Diet Pepsi has asked Metropolitan Choppers to build.

The custom bike will be unveiled December 30th when the Eagles play the Buffalo Bills. The bike is being built to commemorate 75 years the franchise has been in business, and at the end of this season one lucky fan will walk away as the owner of this custom bike as part of a Diet Pepsi sweepstakes contest.

I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this bike, and I’ll share some pics as soon as it’s unveiled. I know I’d love to be the lucky winner.
