14 Year Old Boy Pleads Guilty To Hitting Motorcyclist

I’ve been a little behind on hitting up my daily reads in my feed reader, so I missed a post Brain Bucket Magazine posted Friday that I find really interesting.  A 14 year old Colorado boy pleaded guilty to causing a crash in August with a motorcycle that is a felony.   Julio Garcia, the then 14 year old, turned his truck in front of motorcyclist Patricia Arden hitting her and possibly running over her with the truck.

Arden was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction with serious injuries, but Garcia fled the scene.  After pleading guilty Garcia is now facing a felony for “leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury”.   All other charges the teenager faced were dismissed in the plea agreement.

Now, what the fuck was a 14 year old doing driving much less driving without any adult supervision.  Just like most other states, Colorado requires you to be 15 years old before you can attempt to get a driver’s permit, and even then their permit laws are stricter than a lot of other states.

This child had absolutely no reason to be on the road in the first place.  Who the hell let him in the vehicle in the first place.  Where were the parents?   Yes I think the boy should be charged with a felony for his actions.  You must reap what you sow, but I personally think the parents should face some sort of punishment for allowing their 14 year old son to drive in the first place.

This woman (and many others on the roads that day) could have suffered far worse than a few serious injuries.  She could have lost her life.

I seriously hope the family of this boy is held just as responsible for the accident as he is.  I fully believe the family should have to cover all medical bills and other fees that come out of this incident whether they are insured or not.

I don’t care where you live.  It should not be okay to let a 14 year old drive a vehicle under any circumstances, and if it does happen, and a wreck incurs the legal guardians should be held responsible.

The Salt Flats

What would you do for a chance to race your motorcycle on the Bonneville Salt Flats? I know racing a motorcycle across the salt flats will probably never happen for me, but I want to at least visit the salt flats once in my lifetime.

DH and I have been talking with his dad about taking a family trip to Vegas next summer, and if we do we’re definitely going to make the almost 7 hour drive to the salt flats. I’m so excited that we’re even considering this.

Vegas and the salt flats are two places I really want to visit. I’m not going to get my hopes up just yet because if we do make the trip it won’t be until the end of next summer, but that doesn’t mean I can’t start scoping out a Las Vegas hotel. I would love to take our bike’s with us, but I know that won’t be an option, so I might have to look for a bike rental place as well.

Time Out For A Good Cause

I want to take some time out from the bike talk to give you a little charity talk. You all know how I feel about supporting charities. I’m a huge advocate of raising money to help others in need in any way possible. Some charities don’t receive as many funds as I think they should because they deal with subjects that a lot of people don’t want to think about.

One of those subjects is drug use. If you had an old boat you didn’t need anymore what could you do with it? Well you can always donate boats to a charity like Car Angel because they use those boats to raise money for something positive. They create videos that teach kids and teenagers that drug use and drug abuse is something they want to stay away from.

Take it from me. I’ve seen way too many of my friends end up in horrible situations. My best guy friend is a severe meth addict who I feel at this point has no hope for recovery. He’s been in and out of rehab, and I think his next step is jail or death. I don’t want to see the kids of tomorrow end up like that, and I think videos like the one I’m going to show you below are a great way to give them the information they need. Car angel has given away over 2.4 million videos to help our youngsters learn to make positive decisions in their lifestyles.

Cold Ride

DH and I had planned to go riding today when he got off work, but things didn’t go as planned.  I had a killer migraine that kept me in bed all day, so DH ended up riding without me.  I’m kind of glad I didn’t go because even though I’ve got all my winter gear to keep me warm, I’ve been extremely sensitive to the cold lately.

I feel like I might be coming down with something, so even though DH wants to ride tomorrow I’ll probably sit out again.  I don’t need to get getting on the bike and making myself sick.  I told DH I don’t think he needs to ride tomorrow either.  He did go out on his own today, but he came home complaining that he didn’t feel well.  Maybe he’s the one bringing all the germs home.
