People say sport bikes are dangerous, and a lot of people seem to think sport bikers are wild kids who don’t follow the rules, but people who ride touring bikes, Goldwings, etc, are there just enjoying the ride. They don’t go fast, and they surely don’t hang out with those sport bike kids!
Well Yellow Wolf used to show everyone up on his Goldwing. He’s a legend around Deal’s Gap.
He’d do things none of us ever thought was even possible on a bike that size. Alli told me the story of getting a chance to ride with him right before he retired. For the first time ever this girl who spends a majority of her time on the track or at Deal’s Gap was scared to be his passenger. She even had a photo of the ride on her Myspace for a long time that said something to the effect of “scared shitless on a Goldwing”.
Yellow Wolf retired a little over a year ago. He sold his bike, and I heard he used the cash to buy dirt bikes for his grandkids.
I found a video on Youtube tonight of Yellow Wolf. He once made 106 runs up Deal’s Gap in 24 hours, and his fastest time was 11 minutes. That’s hard for most people to do on a sport bike, much less a Goldwing. This guy really could ride though. It was a sad day when we all heard he hung up his riding boots.
You can see a documentary called “Your Bike Life” that features Yellow Wolf by clicking here.
My mini friend A got to go on his very first bike ride today. Mama Alli ordered him a helmet Sunday night that came in yesterday (really fast shipping from newenough.com!), so she picked him up from daycare today on the bike.
Little guy is so small his feet barely reached the pegs, and as you can see he’s sitting right behind Mama in her seat. He did absolutely great though! He gets to ride to his tee ball game tomorrow, and he’s so excited!
This was a great weekend for riding where weather was concerned, but we just couldn’t bring ourselves to enjoy the riding very long. There have been road checks all over the place this weekend. We went through 4 on Friday night, 2 yesterday, and another 2 today. Going through in the Blazer wasn’t bad, but both times we went through on the bike we were pulled over, and they made us take our helmets off after we showed our licenses/permits. Once they searched under the seat on the 600r, since it’s the only bike that actually had storage space big enough to fit more than a credit card or pack of cigs.
We all eventually headed back to the house where Hubby setup shop with the boys for a video game marathon party. They’ve been driving me crazy since last night shooting people in 3 different rooms of my house. I’m seriously thinking if they do this again I’m going to need to sign up for one of those wine clubs. Drinking might be the only way to cope with them.
Things turned out pretty nice for the ride some of you guys made this weekend. Now I really wish I could have been there. Alli, you made front page of Killboy (as usual). There were a ton of great shots of everybody, and I got to see what the bike looks like on film now that it’s been repaired. We didn’t do a full repair, but instead we decided to leave it as a rat bike for now.
You can see Hubby’s pics in our Photoreflect album, but in the words of my Grandpa “put your magnifiers on” because these are the low res proof versions.
