Here I am always worrying about the small things when I’m riding. What’s that squirrel going to do? Is it going to run under the bike? At dusk it’s always the deer. We creep slowly down the lake loop knowing deer are everywhere, and luckily we haven’t had one run out in front of us yet. Squirrels, dogs, cats, and all the other small stuff tends to run out all the time. I’m normally sitting on the back of the bike not even thinking about stuff like that. My biggest worry is normally whether or not I’m sweating so much in my helmet it’s going to give me acne on my cheeks again. Hubby’s busy watching out for the animals.
This guy will always be on the lookout for animals now, though, after what happened to him a couple weeks ago. My friend sent me a link from the 600rr forums that I had to share. Dude hit a 40-50 lb coyote, and it didn’t take him down. It did however sever the coyote in half. Wow. If you’re squeamish, don’t look at the photos, but if you’re interested you can see the photos and read the guy’s story here.
Hubby got to ride a little bit yesterday, and I realized something. I think I’m going to have to talk him into going to my aunt’s house a couple days a week to use her weight equipment because his leathers are getting awful tight on him. Not being able to ride means he’s not out doing things. Instead he’s sitting on the couch. It might not seem like the bike contributes to his weight loss, but it does. When he’s riding he’s sweating a good deal. Then when we get off the bike he cramps up if we don’t walk around a bit before he sits down again. Of course we also do a lot of walking on our mountain rides, too, because we stop at all the waterfalls and walk in to see them. I guess I didn’t realize that we both are getting a little exercise while we’re out riding.
With the sun shining down on use and hardly any rain clouds in sight all summer people are coming out in droves to enjoy their summer vacations. Everyone who lives in this area that is separated from the rest of the state by two large man made lakes knows that if the weather is nice two out of every three vehicles you pass will be a motorcycle, and the lakes are packed with boats.
I may be all about motorcycles, but I love to grab a few nice days out on the lake as well. I’m just as adamant about getting the proper Boating Education as I am about taking a Motorcycle Safety Course. I haven’t had an opportunity to spend much time on the lake this year, but in a way I’m sort of thankful for that. I’ve heard of too many accidents occurring this year involving boats, and we’re only half way through the summer.
Just last weekend I saw what happens when a jetski collides with a boat. What’s left of the jetski is sitting behind the dealership in ruins. The boat operator was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol. The jetski was sitting still in the water, and the boat operator ran right over it. Thankfully the jetski operator abandoned the jetski as he saw the boat approaching.
Knowing how I feel about taking the proper safety precautions, I think the following commercial says it all.
Please consider looking into courses about boat safety in your area if you plan on being on the water at all. You never know when it could save your life. You may click the banner below for more information.
I actually made it through the day, and I’m quite impressed I was able to pull off dinner without being grumpy. I managed to grab a 2 hour nap in the middle of the day, but that was all I had to run on until after dinner. I refused the wine because I had a headache coming on, so as soon as dinner was over I excused myself to the bedroom with the excuse of a migraine coming on. I got to curl up in bed while Hubby and his friend worked on the bike. The friend’s wife settled herself on the couch to play Guitar Hero Aerosmith Edition, so I’m pretty sure everyone was happy.
I’m not sure how things went with the bike or what time they left because I slept right through it all. I passed out around 7:30pm, and even the sound of Guitar Hero didn’t bother me. Normally I have to have total quiet to sleep. I found myself waking up around 3am. As soon as I stumbled into the kitchen I found I still had a mess to clean up. Hubby didn’t take it upon himself to put up any of the leftover food, so I ended up throwing away what would have been a nice meal of leftovers for Hubby to take to work today. Oh well. I guess I should have taken care of that before I faked a migraine.
