The Insurance Debate

Hubby was arguing with me today about the bike insurance. I paid it in full this summer right after the wreck because he swore he’d have the bike back together soon. After not riding for a few months he feels like paying the insurance on it is a waste for all those months. He thinks I should have dropped the insurance this summer and added it back after it was repaired and ridable. Me I look at it like this. It is ridable, and the full year of insurance is paid up. We didn’t know exactly when we’d have it all back together, but I did know the insurance would still be valid whenever that day came. I don’t have to pay insurance on it again until June.

This is just like when the Saturn broke down and he canceled the insurance on it without telling me. We knew we wouldn’t be buying another car right away. We were using the bike as our only transportation, but I tried my best to convince him not to cancel the car insurance because it’s actually cheaper and better to keep your insurance going on a broken down car than it is to have to start all over again in the system as someone without insurance.

Of course he didn’t listen to me, he canceled it, and when it came time to put insurance on the Blazer we were automatically put into a higher rate category just because we hadn’t had any current insurance within the last 6 months. Of course bike insurance doesn’t count when it comes to car insurance. They will only look consider if you’ve had car insurance or not. It would have saved me over $600 a year on car insurance if we’d just kept that previous premium going. I would have spent around $200 every 6 months to keep it going, so I could have saved us $400.

*Shakes head at him*

He’ll never listen.

No Photos Today

I had some photos I was going to share with you today…updated photos of the bike, but it looks like you’re just going to have to wait. I sat down at my desk and started searching for my card reader. After 10 minutes of searching I found it in the floor pretty much crushed. I snapped a photo of it with my cell phone cam since I have no way to get the photos off my memory cards right now.

If I could find my camera cord I could slowly transfer them all directly from the camera, but there’s no telling where that is. I inspected it to see if I could repair, and no can do. A few of the contact legs are broken, and there’s no getting around that. You can’t do a solder repair when there’s nothing left to solder. I’ll just have to go pick up a new card reader today.

Bye bye cheap $2 card reader. You did your job well over the last 2 years!

Redneckin’ It

Hubby and I were just joking about how we’re going to have to make our yard look a wee bit more redneck*. We have a garage, but we can’t use it. It’s stuffed from wall to wall with my Grandma’s junk. So is every other storage building, barn, and attic on the property. She probably has 60 years of junk piled up around here, and there’s no telling how valuable some of it is.

Because of that we’re stuck with one of those open carports that would be ok except the wind blows rain and snow under it. Last year we had the bike outside, so we had a tarp thrown up on the side where the wind blows. There was a line of shrubs protecting the other side. We haven’t worried about it this year because the guest room became the bike garage, but not anymore.

We’ve got a friend coming down to spend at least a couple weeks with us, and he’s going to need a room of his own. That pushes bikes outside, and means we’ve got to fix the carport up somehow to be rain/freezing rain/ snow proof again. This year it’s not as simple as throwing a tarp over one end because the row of shrubs on the other side got chopped down. Now I’m on a mission to find a tarp big enough to cover the whole thing so we can redneck carport cover* it!

*Hey…being that I am said redneck, I’m allowed to say stuff like that!

Needing My Fix

With the cold weather upon us and threads showing on the back tire I’m having serious riding withdrawals.  It’s warm enough to ride today, but without a back tire what are you to do?  I’ve turned to video games for my fix.  I played a little Tourist Trophy then I sat down for awhile and decided to buy bikes for all of my Sims.  I still need to find a sports bike since all the motorcycles I’ve been able to download or choppers or cruisers.  If anybody has a custom sports bike mesh that you know about let me know!  I’m not just looking in the free stuff.  I’m all for a PTU mesh as well.

I really need to get some more photos taken of our bike and what it looks like now.  I thought of doing that today, but I left my camera in the Blazer.  I’ll try to take some photos when Hubby gets home from work if it’s not too dark.  My Kodak point & shoot doesn’t work very well in the dark.  The flash totally sucks!

Now I’m going to go cut into one of the mini cheesecakes I made last night.  If they taste as good as they look I’m definitely going to have to do some research on effective diet pills.
