Stereotypes And First Impressions

ThanksOne thing that has always driven me crazy is stereotyping.  Considering we ride sport bikes I’ve been subjected to plenty of it, and I hate the fact that in this day and age people still judge and stereotype people.

For instance there are lots of people who will judge someone by what they drive or how they look.  Just because a guy may be wearing a leather jacket, riding a Harley, and has a long pony tail doesn’t mean he’s a “bad guy”, but do you know how many people are going to turn their nose up at him just because of the stereotype?

Just like that guy there are tons of people out there who are judged everyday based on how they look, especially in the professional world.  Gillette recently commissioned a survey of over 500 HR professionals, and the results showed that 84% of those professionals believed “well-groomed” employees will advance in their corporate positions faster than those who aren’t as groomed.  It just goes to show that no matter how much we want to think our society doesn’t judge on appearance, it definitely still happens on a daily basis.

Gillette knows this, and they’ve setup the Gillette Career Advantage website to help professionals advance in their careers by providing advice from experts like GQ style correspondent Brett Fahlgren.  If you’re looking for a job and want to make a great first impression this website can really give you an advantage.  You can take the Gillette Resource Center to give you the extra edge the competition may not have.  Take the

Win A 2010 Camaro 2SS From Charter

ImageOk, so it’s not a motorcycle, but do we really care?  This thing is bad no matter how many wheels it has on the ground, and I would almost give my left kidney to win it.

How do you go about winning something as awesome as this 426hp beast that makes us all drool?  You can start by visiting Charter’s Camaro Sweepstakes site and registering to win since no purchase is necessary.  You’re also automatically entered to win when you order any Charter service online.  When you order Charter services online you’re also eligible to receive up to $100 in free gift cards for bundling your services which is something I’d totally be taking advantage of if I weren’t already a Charter customer.

Go ahead and check out Charter on Facebook or follow Charter on Twitter to stay up to date on contests and sweepstakes like this one and to receive the latest Charter news.  Then get your sweepstakes entries in soon because this sweepstakes runs from September 16 to noon on November 26, and it’s definitely one opportunity you don’t want to miss.  What do you have to lose?  Get your entry in today, and you might just be driving around in the car that makes all your bike buddies jealous!

Win A Custom Chopper

I got an interesting note from Alexa Hernandez of IRWIN Industrial Tools and BernzOmatic. She wanted me to mention a contest that’s going on right now, and I definitely think it’s something that could be of interest to a few of you.

IRWIN launched a contest this week called “Tell Us Your IRWIN VISE-GRIP Story”. All you have to do is share some of the interesting ways you have used VISE-GRIP locking pliers or wrenches around your house or job. The contest runs through October 31, 2008, and you can enter or see other entries by clicking here.

Why should you enter? The grand prize is an IRWIN VISE-GRIP custom branded chopper worth over $25,000. It’s custom build by East Coast Custom Cycles.

I definitely think I’ll try to talk Hubby into entering. After all he is a carpenter, and I’ve seen him use Vise-Grips in many interesting ways. I should talk my dad into entering, too. He keeps Vice-Grips everywhere, even in his barn with his horse supplies because there are just so many uses for them. Heck I remember using a pair of VISE-GRIP pliers to hold part of my stirrups strap together when it broke on me.

The Shirt I’ll Want To Wear Everywhere

I can thank my best friend Allison for pointing me in the direction of this super awesome shirt.

I’ll be submitting an order for it tomorrow as soon as I get paid. Where did she find it? The shirt is one of three currently being offer by Tear Off Tees. What I love the most is that these shirts are designed by a female motorcycle rider who has been riding on the street since the age of 16. At 21 she has now taken her skills to the track, and is using the profits from Tear Off Tees towards the chance at a career in professional racing.
