Bikes & Insurance

My best friend and I were having a conversation this morning about our motorcycle insurance.  She decided it was time to request free insurance quotes from a few companies because she hasn’t even checked her motorcycle insurance in a couple years to see if she could get it cheaper. Her current company has dropped her rates a great deal because she hasn’t had any incidents or tickets in the last 3 or 4 years.

Motorcycle Helmets and Gear

So that leads me to the quotes. She couldn’t believe how much of a different she found between so many different companies just because one of her bikes is a 750cc. That I can understand because a lot of companies won’t insure anything over 600cc. Even though her rate with her current company has been extremely cheap, she could have actually been paying less with another company. Her current company is actually charging her an extra fee just because her bike is in the over 600cc class.

So basically where am I going with this? Just like with car insurance don’t run out there and buy the first policy you’re quoted. Don’t take the word of friends and family members for who’s got the cheapest rates. Do your own research, and in the end you’ll end up with the best policy for you.

Getting My Parts Ebay Ready

Matt didn’t end up coming over, so he was spared. Poor guy would have probably been scared out of his mind if he’d seen the mood I was in earlier. Now that I’m in a better mood I feel like I’ve been taking Ephadrasil hardcore or something because I’ve got all this energy that came out of nowhere.

It’s weird because this week I’ve been on this in bed by 9pm and awake by 5am kick, but I guess my body finally decided to change that. Oh well, at least I can put this energy to good use. Now that I’ve got my new card reader I can actually take some photos and get them transferred to the pc. I’m going to go setup a table in the guest room and take photos of all the extra bike parts I have to list on Ebay. I’ve got a ton of parts that weren’t damaged but won’t be reused because of the tail end conversion, so I might as well try to sell them.

I’m not sure if I want to list the stuff right now, though. With Christmas coming up I could sell a good bit of it if anyone’s looking for that part as a Christmas gift, but I don’t see that happening. I think I might wait until after the first of the year when all the Christmas shopping is over and done with.

A Nice Trade

It looks like Hubby’s actually going to get his double bubble windscreen. I told him if he could wait I’d order it after Christmas. Right now I just wanted to get all the necessary parts to have the bike on the road, and the other stuff could come later when I put the bike in the shop for paint. Well it looks like he’s going to get his windscreen and a few extra parts anyway.

I’ve got a friend who has an ’02 600r sitting in his garage. He hasn’t ridden it since he bought his 06 R1, but he bought a bunch of stuff for it right before he got the R1. He’s got the double bubble that he never installed as well as an extra front fender and all the 600r decals I need. His pc went down this weekend, so he called me to see if I could fix it. He can’t afford to pay anyone to fix it right now, but he offered to trade the parts out if I could get it up and running.

No big deal. He dropped it off this morning, and it’s such a simple fix. One of his ram sticks went kaput, and that was keeping the pc from posting. Luckily I didn’t have to go buying a type of computer memory that I didn’t already have on hand. He’s got an older Dell Dimension 2350 that takes all these SDRAM sticks I have laying around that I can’t use anymore, so I loaded him up with 2GB and 2 extra 512mb sticks to take home with him. Seems like a pretty fair trade to me! I would have loved to put all 3GB in his pc, but his motherboard won’t support it.

Time For Presents

Thank goodness this rain is almost out of here. The bike being down for so long, I really truly forgot exactly how much we were saving on gas. It’s nice having an extra $70-100 in my pocket a week that I can use on things I need. It really came in handy this week because if we hadn’t saved that much on gas I wouldn’t have had the cash to pay the power bill. Luckily that gave me just enough, then an early payday coming in yesterday is just what I needed to make sure we get through the rest of the week.

I also have to start putting money back for Christmas presents. I totally have no idea what to get Hubby. One minute he mentions a pair of gloves he wants. The next he wants a new helmet. Then he changes his mind and says he’s wants an XBox 360, so I don’t know what the heck to get him. I had just assumed he’d want something for the bike, like the Two Bros pipe we both want.

I’m stuck on my father-in-law’s gift as well. I’d planned to get him a set of pegs he’s been drooling over for his V Star 650 Classic, but now it looks like I’ll be looking at unlocked cell phones instead. I gave him a cheap little cell phone that came free when I setup his plan, and now it’s about shot. Considering he had me drop the insurance on the phone since he didn’t want to pay for it, he’s either gotta deal with the crappy phone that works half the time, or I’ll have to find him a decent alternative for his combined Christmas and Birthday present. Ugh. Too bad he has no idea what kind of phone he wants. *Sigh* It’s so much easier shopping for motorcycle parts.
