Recently I caught an episode of Twist The Throttle on Discovery HD, and it intrigued me. First of all we all know I’m definitely a fan of any show that’s going to break down the history of a motorcycle brand. The first episode of this series I happened to catch was on Ducati, and boy did I learn a lot of interesting stuff that I definitely didn’t know. I’ve setup the DVR to grab any of these as they repeat, but luckily there’s a chance to catch some of the episodes this month.
I really want to try to catch the Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha episodes, but I’ll admit the Ducati and BMW episodes gave me a whole new look at both brands.

One way Hubby has decided to help me feed my riding fiend is by recording his rides for me. If I can’t ride I can at least watch the videos pretending I’m getting to enjoy my favorite routes. I’ve been watching the rides as he’s recorded them, but as usual my laziness kept me from offloading them onto the pc to edit. I figured I’d do that one day when I had the time to do it, then I’d pick a few of the videos to share here.
Well today I’ve had plenty of extra time, so after helping my sis search through job listings for administrative careers I decided I’d sit down and edit videos. Of course it couldn’t be that easy. I have yet again killed another card reader, and I can’t get the videos off my SD card. I swear I go through card readers like toilet paper! I’ll have to pick up another one tonight, and maybe I’ll have the time tomorrow to edit the videos because I’d really like to show you the areas where we love to ride.

After reading about the movie marathon Hubby and I had and knowing of my love for Rossi (I’d stand in the pits in sexy lingerie any day for that man!) a friend suggested I watch the documentary called Faster (2003). I threw it on my Netflix list, and when it arrived Monday I knew exactly what we’d be doing that evening.
As with most of the motorcycle documentaries I watch this one was narrated by Ewan McGregor. Even though it’s an older documentary, it takes you inside MotoGP and gives a perspective you don’t normally see.
Here’s how Netflix describes the film.
Ewan McGregor narrates this in-depth look at the MotoGP world championship, an event watched by more than 350 million people worldwide and considered the pinnacle of motorcycle sport. The film explores the risks and rewards of this dangerous sport and the fast-paced subculture surrounding it, and also profiles some of the event’s most fascinating personalities (including two-time world champion Valentino Rossi and bitter rival Max Biaggi).
I was surprised to see that the documentary goes pretty deep into the rivalry between Rossi and Biaggi. As a Rossi fan I knew the rivalry existed, but I didn’t know it was a deep as the film shows nor did I expect either of them to outright profess their hatred for one another.
Aside from that, you can an up close and personal look at what it takes to ride MotoGP, and you quickly learn to distinguish the true talent from the factory bred riders.
If you’re a MotoGP fan, you really should check this one out. It’s definitely worth the rent.
Now I’m off to finish another documentary we dvr’d called Birth of A Racer. I had read about this documentary following the development of the Motoczysz C1 motorcycle on The Kneeslider, and I had queued up the title to dvr the next time it showed up on Discovery HD Theater. We finally got lucky enough to catch it this week. It’s definitely interesting, but I was so tired I only made it about half way through the 2 hour documentary before I crashed out on the couch. So far it’s definitely worth the watch, and I can’t wait to finish it this morning.

Man I’m going to be so sad when this nice weather ends. Of course it’s supposed to end right about the time the weekend gets here. For now I’ll enjoy every minute of it though. This morning the weather report said it’d be 79 today. It’s already 83 here at 2:22pm. I can’t wait to go riding this evening.
We were going to do a little riding yesterday, but the bike was only firing on 3 cylinders when Hubby cranked it up. Yep it’s the plugs, but we couldn’t get any on a Sunday. Our bike mechanic friend picked some up today to get us going again, so we spent yesterday having a bike movie marathon.
Hubby had never watched On Any Sunday, so I cued it up on Netflix along with Troy’s Story: Legend of Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss, On Any Sunday Revisited, and The Motorcycle Diaries. It was a nice way to waste a day, and if you’ve never seen On Any Sunday you seriously should. It is definitely the best motorcycle documentary out there, and it’s interesting to see how AMA ran in the 70s.
Our movies ended right about the time a few friends came over. I really wish we could have gone to The Gap this weekend because it turns out a ton of our friends went. These guys stopped by our house on the way back, and “E” was asking me to help him check out a few wireless security systems for his bike. They stopped for dinner on the way home, and when he walked out he found a teenage kid sitting on his bike. Now he wants to install an alarm system that will go off as soon as someone touches it, so I promised I’d checkout a few for him this week.
I don’t blame him one bit. One thing that really pisses me off is seeing someone who has no business touching it sitting on someone else’s bike. The kids around here like to try to hop on bikes and take pics while the owner isn’t around, and it’s happened to us before. We’ve seen quite a few bikes get knocked over because someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing tries to play on it while the owner isn’t around, so I’m all for alarm systems. If we weren’t totally rocking a rat bike now I’d probably consider one, and I just may after we’ve got the new paint job.
